Spill clean-up is a necessity in places where spills could lead to bodily injury, company property damage, and other problems. It is important to choose the right spill equipment, and many business owners choose the wrong ones without even knowing it. For your emergency needs, EcoSpill has all the containment options you’ll need, but selecting the best solution is still important.
Incompatibility
One of the most common problems is that the spill kits you choose aren’t compatible with the liquids you house or use frequently. Otherwise, you could find yourself in an emergency situation without the proper tools for clean-up. It is usually best to choose a universal kit wherever possible, as they can handle almost anything. However, hazmat kits are best for hazardous chemicals. You’ll also need a specialty kit if you regularly use mercury or battery acids.
Volume
Another common problem with spill kits is that they aren’t big enough or don’t have enough absorbent material to completely clean the mess. If you cannot afford to place or don’t have room enough to hold a larger kit to keep all of the liquid, you can always put multiple kits in each location, to ensure that you have enough for total spillage of your tanks.
Stock
Even if you have the right kit and it is big enough for the liquid, the containment kit may not have enough absorbent stock. They must frequently be monitored to ensure that they haven’t been used or something has gone wrong. If you don’t check them, you could have a massive spill and not enough stock to take care of the problem.
PPE
Another dangerous problem is not having personal protective equipment nearby when an emergency hits. If your kit comes with PPE, make sure it is compatible and that it is in good condition. Otherwise, ensure that you have PPE nearby for safety purposes.
